Dental Services V3 EN
Accreditation Canada’s Dental Services Standards apply to facilities where dental services are provided. This includes acute care organizations, clinics, and primary care services that provide a range of dental services including dental hygiene, surgical services, restorative dentistry, orthodontics, pediatric dentistry, and prosthetic dentistry. These services include procedures performed with or without the administration of anesthesia.
Accreditation Canada’s Dental Services Standards contain the following sections:
- Investing in Dental Services
- Having the Right People
- Delivering Dental Services
- Maintaining Client Information
- Monitoring the Safety, Quality, and Appropriateness of Dental Services
The Dental Services standards have been developed to address the level of risk according to the type of services provided to clients. While most of the criteria included in these standards apply to all facilities offering any level of sedation, some criteria apply only to those facilities providing deep sedation and/or general anesthesia services.
If organizations provide deep sedation and/or general anesthesia services they are required to meet criteria that have been marked “General Anesthesia Only.” Facilities that only provide local anesthesia and/or light sedation (e.g., nerve blocking, nitrous oxide) are not required to complete the content marked “General Anesthesia Only.”
